The Japanese are a cruel cruel people.  The last of these public toilet pranks is especially insidious so be sure to watch it to the end.

World's largest public restroom

Chongqing a southwestern Chinese city opened a porcelain palace in 2007 that features an Egyptian facade, soothing music and more than 1,000 toilets spread out over 32,290 square feet.

"We are spreading toilet culture. People can listen to gentle music and watch TV," said Lu Xiaoqing, an official with the Yangrenjie, or "Foreigners Street," tourist area where the bathroom is located. "After they use the bathroom they will be very, very happy."

Some urinals are uniquely shaped, including ones inside open crocodile mouths and several that are topped by the bust of a woman resembling the Virgin Mary; some areas even have TVs and 'gentle music' to help you poo.

For open-aired relief, there is a cluster of stalls without a roof.

 

There are also plans to build a supermarket nearby, which will sell toilet-related items, CCTV reported. 

Art you can pee on

Urinals make great statements.  An artist by the name of Clark Sorensen in San Francisco has made a career of sculpting art for you to pee into.

Modern Toilet is a restaurant in Taipei, Taiwan with a toilet theme. The continually crowded diner has 100 seats and all are made from toilet bowls, not chairs. It is one of 12 in an island-wide chain of eateries with three stories. The featured desert is a lovely pile of chocolate ice cream served in a toilet bowl.  Yum!

 

A miscellany of musings

For our first entry, we bring you three items of interest.

Item #1: the Japanese have invented a talking toilet; check it out at the Tototalk web site. It's in Japanese so we couldn't understand anything, which is probably just as well. There's a short writeup in English at cnet.  Apparently the lid actually moves up and down with the words.  Now there's something to mess with your head if you are drunk.

Item #2: just what you wanted for Christmas - the WOW Toilet has a clear tank you can customize with your own poster.  Now you too can outdo Martha Stewart in your very own bathroom by putting a holiday look on your crapper.

Item #3: and now for something completely different. Have you ever wondered how far you can get from a McDonald's restaurant in the Lower 48? Frankly, neither had we. But those who do, you can get the answer at Weather Sealed's "Where the Buffalo Roamed". Surprisingly, it isn't the middle of the Nevada desert.
